The mid-morning air around "Kampung SS14/7" was filled with a sweet aroma of fried koay teow and burgers...a strange smell especially on a Sunday morning.....
Something was definitely cooking......
Yes, it was our 2nd gotong-royong for this year...with a difference...masak-masak by our very own neighbourhood chef - Feisal and his family.
While the men were busy trimming critical trees in the designated areas, the ladies and their families indulged themselves in helping prepare the meals for the day...serving up hot burgers and sizzling koay teow.
The police from the SS17 station and members of RELA joined more than 60 residents to trim and also remove unwanted trees in the neighbourhood.

The sound of the chainsaw filled the morning while others trimmed and chopped down unwanted bushes to tidy up the neighbourhood.
Although we were under equipped by one chainsaw, we made do with whatever we had and managed to clear quite a lot.

Yes...we have a lot more to do...particularly since we could not trim the overgrown branches near the TNB lamp posts and overgrown branches near phone or electric lines without the presence of the relevant authorities to supervise and assist us.

Despite all that...I believe all of us went home feeling happy with what we have achieved and also most importantly...for the good home-cooked meals prepared by our ladies and gentlemen in the kitchen division.

Do not despair...we will be following up with MPSJ and TNB to have the necessary trees trimmed in due time.
The trimmed branches will be removed within the next few days and MPSJ has promised to make it up to us by having a forklift come in to take down the huge mango tree at the backlane of 7G.

There's also a proposal during the gotong-royong to pool together some funds to purchase a chainsaw. This will be utilised within our community. We can periodically carry out street by street tree trimming exercises on a smaller scale to keep our area clean and nice.

Let me take this opportunity to thank first and foremost Dato Lee for his untiring support, Mr Lee You Hin (MPSJ councillor) for getting us the support from MPSJ, Chief Inspector Yusof and his team for their participation and the RELA team for their team effort.

Due thanks have to go out to Feisal, his family and those who have helped in making sure the cooking was possible for this time around...
Thank you also to those who had contributed cash and donations in kind to this event. The receipt will be coming soon for your cash contributions.

All your help took us a long way in making this event a success......if you have any suggestions and comments to help improve the such events in the future, please feel free to drop us a line...
