THIRTY-SIX children from the Ru-mah Amal Cahaya Tengku Amp-uan Rahimah (Ractar) were treated to a buka puasa feast by Datuk Lee Hwa Beng at the Sheraton Subang Hotel & Towers.
The event was sponsored by Gapurna Sdn Bhd. Company director Datin Yasmin Mohamed Ashraff presented a cheque for RM50,000 to the home founder and president Tengku Puteri Nor Zehan Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj.
Dressed in blue baju kurung, the girls from Ractar enjoyed the meal at the hotel.
Since moving into the home five years ago, Illani Hayati has attended the buka puasa organised by Lee three times.
“My Raya wish is to be happy with my family,” the 13-year-old said, adding that her sister is also staying at the home.
Not all the girls staying in Ractar are orphans, some are children of single-parents.
Lee was accompanied by his wife Datin Lee Soo Soo and has been organising such functions for Ractar since he became the state assemblyman in 1995.
“Although I’m no longer a state assemblyman, I feel it is an honour to host this event.
“This is a non-political function for a good cause.
“All former wakil rakyat should continue organising charity events,’’ he said.
