THE AYA Festival concert is back again, this time with a cause. The proceeds from the sale of night concert passes will go towards helping and rebuilding affected lives, especially the young.

“It was initially supposed to be our yearly Christian festival until the floods began,” said Asian Youth Ambassador (AYA) Festival chairman Pastor Kenneth Chin.

AYA is a non-profit organisation founded in Malaysia for the purpose of inviting, inspiring, instructing and involving young people.

“Part of our country is in 'deep waters' and we felt that we must do something for a cause that is bigger than us,” said Chin, adding that AYA hopes to raise some RM100, 000 for the victims.

Dancers all: The Arise Dance Team from New Zealand will also be performing.

He hoped that those who were interested in attending the concerts would purchase their passes early.

Held for the second time, the annual AYA Festival features conferences and workshops that culminate in an exciting concert, ending the two-day event on a high note.

“The Festival is not just a festival of celebration but also a conference for people of all ages, dedicated to equip and inspire men and women to stand firm in an unwavering purpose for the destiny of Malaysia,” said Chin.

Philanthropy aside, this year's festival is going to be bigger.

Grammy-nominated US-based band Sonic Flood is the main headliner this year.

Other bands that will be performing include local bands Altered Frequency and Unabashed and.

Also, the Arise Dance Team from Auckland, New Zealand, will be performing contemporary dance numbers during the concerts.

“Last year, we had 1, 500 people attending the concert. This year, we're aiming for about 5, 000 people,” said Chin, adding that T-shirts and button badges will also be sold as part of the fundraiser.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng said the event was worthy of support.

“I hope that people, especially the young people of Subang Jaya will respond to this effort and help raise funds for the flood victims,” said Lee.

AYA Festival concert will be held on Feb 2 and 3, at the Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil, and gates will open at 6.30pm. Passes for the AYA Festival concerts are at RM30 (one night) and RM50 (two nights), and are sold at the AYA office, and all Blook boutiques.

Passes can also be purchased at the stadium from Feb 1 and 2(from 10am - 10pm) and from 8.30am onwards on Feb 3.
