Organised by the Setia Badminton Academy, the tournament will be held at the newly completed Badminton Academy training hall in Bandar Setia Alam at Jalan Meru in Shah Alam on May 4 and 5.
Academy chairman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng. who is also the Subang Jaya assemblyman, said the tournament was aimed at developing the young talents who would eventually be competing at the state, national and international levels.
He said this was an opportunity for youngsters to be involved in healthy competition that would help them towards making badminton a professional career.
“I believe the tournament will also enable us to identify new talents with great potential so that they can become world class badminton and basketball champions in the coming years.
“The academy is equipped with good courts for training and offers a great venue for tournaments at this level,” he said
The badminton tournament, Lee said, was open to all students below the age of 15 except for those from the Bukit Jalil Sports School.
Lee said, however, that the basketball competition was a closed competition with participants from selected schools only.
“The boys’ category is divided into five age groups between 11 and 15 years old, while there are only two age groups, under-12 and under-14, for the girls,” he said.
Lee also received a mock cheque for RM52,000 from Bandar Setia Alam Sdn Bhd general manager Norhayati Subali.
The closing date for the tournament is April 23 and each entry must be submitted with RM20 entry fee.
