SK La Salle emerged tops for the second year in a row in the Choral Speaking Competition for primary schools organised by the Petaling District Education Office at SK Wawasan USJ 15 recently.
The competition, held to improve the command of English among primary school pupils, required teams to recite a passage of prose or poetry.
SK La Salle defeated 33 other schools and will represent the Petaling district in the state-level competition at the end the month.
The first runner-up was SK Subang Jaya, while SK Assunta (2) was third.
SK La Salle team conductor Lee Ming Zhao, 12, who is the school's headboy, also walked away with the Best Conductor award.
The school's headmaster, Yeo Sai Lim, attributed their success to the pupils and teachers involved.
Subang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng, who has been the patron of the competition for the past nine years, gave away the prizes.
He said schools should emphasise the English curriculum, especially now with the implementation of the teaching of Mathematics and Science in English.
“Although Bahasa Malaysia is the official language, the importance of English for commerce, especially among foreign companies, must be recognised,” he said.
