THE third major sponsor of the Subang Jaya 10km Run, scheduled for Aug 26 at the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) Sports Complex in USJ5, has come on board promising attractive prizes, such as iPod Nano and prepaid reload cards, to participants.

Despite capturing the public’s attention with its advertising and promotion campaigns with the hint of yellow appeal, telecommuni-cations provider DiGi is continuing its commitment, for the second consecutive year, to the family-orientated community-based run to be held in conjunction with the nation’s 50th Merdeka celebration.

DiGi administrative operations head Low Min Tong handed over the organisation's pledge worth RM30,000 in cash and kind to the event's organising chairman, Datuk Lee Hwa Beng, witnessed by MPSJ president Adnan Md Ikhsan, on Monday.

“We feel very attached to the Subang Jaya community because our office, located at the Subang High Tech Industrial Park, is under the MPSJ jurisdiction. It is only natural for us to support our own com-munity’s initiatives. In addition, the run has been a success over the years,” Low said, adding that a team from the organisation would be featuring in the Fun Run.

Also present at the ceremony were The Star marketing services senior manager Iris Tan, MPSJ councillor Lee You Hin and MPSJ Sports and Culture assistant director Ahmad Faizal Azhar.

The Run has 12 categories – 10km men’s and women’s open (18 years and above), 7km men’s junior veteran (40 years to below 50 years) and men’s senior veteran (50 years and above), women’s veteran (35 years and above), boys' and girls' (13 years to below 18 years), men’s and women’s special (wheelchair par-ticipants only), 5km men’s and women’s special (non-wheelchair participants only) and a 3km Fun Run (adults and children).

Entry fee is RM10 for each par-ticipant (including Fun Run) and RM5 for school children.

Meanwhile, it is free for partici-pants in the men's and women's special category as well as children below six years for the Fun Run category.

Entries close on Aug 13.

Entry forms are available at MPSJ in Subang Jaya and The Star in Petaling Jaya; the entry form can also be downloaded from the website thestar.com.my/subangjaya/sjrun_form.pdf and www.mpsj.gov.my/main.php.

Although the event drew more than 3,500 participants last year, the organisers are expecting about 5,000 people to take part in the annual affair this year.

The event is jointly organised by The Star, MPSJ and the Selangor Amateur Athletics Association (SA-AA).

Among the major sponsors Milo and Ambank Group.
