Cash prizes for schools with most participants

THE upcoming Merdeka Subang Jaya run on Aug 26 could help instil healthy lifestyles among the youth.

“What better way is there than by taking part in the cheapest form of exercise?” asked Subang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng.

To motivate students and teachers, Lee would be awarding cash prizes to the top three schools with the highest number of student participation for the race.

They will receive RM2,500, RM1,500 and RM500 respectively on the condition that at least 200 students from each school take part.

“SMK Subang Jaya had the best participation for the previous five years,'' said Lee.

“I hope other schools will also join in this year.''

The run's organising chairman's dream might already be coming true as SMK Seafield in USJ 2, for instance, has been aggressively promoting the eve nt among its students.

“During lunch break, we set up counters for students to sign up,'' said head prefect Wong Ryui Bynn.

“And reminders are made during school assembly as well,” added assistant prefect Lee Shang Shi.

With 213 students signed up so far, the school might be in the running for the top prize.

The SJ 10km run is jointly organised by The Star, MPSJ and the Selangor Amateur Athletics Associa-tion (SA-AA).

Entry forms are available at MPSJ in Subang Jaya and The Star in Petaling Jaya or can be downloaded from their respective websites as well.
