Big turnout expected for SJ Run tomorrow

PEOPLE from all walks of life are expected to turn up for the Subang Jaya 10km Run to be flagged off by Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan, the chief secretary to the government, at the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) sports complex tomorrow. 

The tagline for the run this year which coincides with the nation's 50th Merdeka celebrations is – Run for All – and the organising committee, headed by Datuk Lee Hwa Beng, is eager to make the event a memorable one. 

Lee, the Subang Jaya state assemblyman, said there was encouraging response this year from not only the participants but also sponsors. 

“We are expecting a big turnout for this year's run. We are also happy with the encouraging support from sponsors, who have been generous. said Lee.

The main sponsors for the run are AmBank Group, Digi, Royal Sporting House, 100Plus, Sports Toto and Milo. The co-sponsors include Malaysia Optical Group, Midah Hotel, Dynasty Hotel, Holiday Villa, Sunway Pyramid, Federal Hotel Internationals, Frontier Food Marketing, Star Bucks, Faber Castell, California Fitness, GBA, Permanis, Fujifilm, Star Cruises and Island Circle and Biocare Resource Enterprise (sponsor for cleaning products). 

The run has 12 categories – 10km men’s and women’s open (18 years and above), 7km men’s junior veteran (40 years to below 50 years) and men’s senior veteran (50 years and above), women’s veteran (35 years and above), boys’ and girls’ (13 years to below 18 years), men’s and women’s special (wheelchair participants only), 5km men’s and women’s special (non-wheelchair participants only) and a 3km Fun Run (adults and children). 

Entry fee is RM10 for each participant (including Fun Run) and RM5 for school children.It is free for participants in the men’s and women’s special category as well as children below six years for the Fun Run category. 

The event is jointly organised by The Star, MPSJ and the Selangor Amateur Athletics Association (SAAA).
