Ice hockey members get together to thank supporters

KELAB Hoki Ais Saga (Khas) initiated a get together to show their appreciation to sponsors and well-wishers recently.

Khas has been actively drawing up development programmes as well as organising the ice hockey school. They also organise the Adun Subang Jaya ice hockey league twice a year. The three-division league provides a platform for young players to gain exposure.

The presence of expatriates, who were former ice hockey players in their respective countries, also created a bond as well as inspiration to Khas.

Khas secretary Susan Loh said they were grateful to all those who had supported them.

“We value their contribution and assistance. More importantly, the members of Khas are a close-knit family with only one vision - to promote ice hockey in Malaysia. Based on the increased number of young players, we have reasons to be optimistic about the future ,'' said Loh.

She also said she appreciated the support from Dexion Asia and Subang Jaya state assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng.

Dexion Asia had supported Khas activities as well as sponsored Wildcats. Dexion Asia also contributed to Malaysia's debut in the Asian Winter Games in Changchun, China early this year.

Lee, on his part, is supporting the Adun Subang Jaya ice hockey league and was the prime mover in Malaysia's debut in the Asian Winter Games.

“We are not a rich club and have to rely on members' contribution to make our events successful. We don't want to confine ourselves to ice hockey only. We are also active in community programmes. We have supported several charity programmes,'' said Loh.

Khas had initiated several fund raising programmes, including a charity ice hockey match and car wash campaign, to make cancer patient Felicia Guan's last wish to visit Hong Kong Disneyland a reality.

Dexion Asia managing director Frank Johnstone said he was impressed with Khas' community programmes.

“It is not only ice hockey but the friendship among the players, officials and family members that impresses me. They get together and create a harmonious atmosphere. I am proud to be associated with them,'' said Johnstone.

At the get together, Khas also celebrated Dexion Wildcats' skipper Gary Tan's birthday.

The Adun Subang Jaya ice hockey league has three divisions. Division One has Serpents, Fangs, Venom and Dexion Wildcats; Division Two has Piranhas, Isam Mih Cardinals, Thunder and Vipers while Metro Stars and Sunway Dragons are in Division Three.
