Veterans to have their kicks
THERE is a twist to the latest event hosted by the Subang Jaya Community Sports Club (SJCSC) and keen veteran footballers residing within the Subang Jaya vicinity will be out to vie for the inaugural Piala Datuk Lee Hwa Beng Subang Jaya Veterans football tourn-ament to be held at the 3K Complex and Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) sports complex fields today.
Tournament organising co-ordinator Farouk Hashim said parents and volunteers from their Subang Jaya Community Youth Football League (SJCYFL) are eager to feature for the SJCSC.
“Judging by the response, the fathers, especially, are excited about taking part in the tournament.

“This is an opportunity for them to compete and display their skills to the youngsters,” he said.
A total of 16 teams will be in the fray at the one-day meet.
Teams will be divided into four groups of four teams each.
The top two sides from each group will advance to the quarter -finals.
The preliminary and knockout matches will be held at the 3K Complex and MPSJ sports complex, respectively.
Each team will be allowed to register three players above 35 years in their 10-man line-up comprising those above 40 years.
“They will only be playing on half of the actual football pitch. The duration for each half is seven minutes with rolling substitutions,” Farouk said.
In addition, the budding footballers from the SJCYFL will also be making a brief appearance on the pitch during the interval before the third-fourth playoff and final.
The decider for third-fourth placing is scheduled at 8pm followed by the final at 8.30pm.
Champions will walk away RM1,500 richer while the runners-up will pocket RM800.
Teams finishing third and fourth will receive RM500 and RM300 respectively.
